Correcting incorrect date of birth

When I first got a Microsoft system I needed a login for, I created an Outlook account especially for the computer and set the date of birth to 1 November 2013. That was a lie, because I didn't feel like sharing my real date of birth with Microsoft.

Unfortunately, my new computer, running on Windows 11, now thinks I'm underage and is being difficult about me downloading certain apps. (A scanner app, at the moment.) It doesn't know I am in fact over 40 years old and wants permission from my parent or guardian.

In my Outlook account that I use for my computer, I can change some information about myself, but not my date of birth. How can I fix this issue?

The Microsoft helpdesk suggested waiting until the account comes of age or making a new account. I don't want to wait nine years, and before I make a new account and deal with the headache of setting up my computer again: is there any way I can just fix the date?

I am trying to help my dad who cannot access his email because his profile date of birth has him listed as a child. His date of birth cannot be changed because he is the only user and does not have a "parent" to change his data. His name and other information can be changed but his date of birth is the only thing he cannot change. He is now concerned that he will have to set up a whole new account and loose all his emails. I can't find any information that is helpful.

I accidentally changed my date of birth on my Microsoft account to my 6 year olds when attempting to set up an account for him. I need to change it back to my date of birth but it won’t let me and it’s all greyed out.

Please help.
