Windows 10: Dealing with annoying 3D Objects , Music and Video folders without registry edit

If you are a corporate user you won't be creating any 3D images nor will you have anything to store in the Music and Videos folders.


Windows will not allow these folders to be deleted or hidden. They end up sitting there cluttering up your file explorer.


There is a registry edit to get rid of these folders. But if you are a corporate user it's unlikely your system admin will allow the use of regedit.


With a little bit of creative thinking you can make these annoyances go away.

I use the 3D objects folder to store all my Excel files. The Music folder to store Word documents and Videos folder to store MSAccess files.


The mapping is

3D Objects == Excel

Music == Word

Videos == MSAccess


You can use any custom mapping of your choice.

Hiding "3D Objects" Folder in This PC

I would like to hide the "3D Objects" folder in This PC. I was able to hide the other folders (Desktop, Pictures, etc.) by editing the registry, but I could not find the corresponding entry for the "3D Objects" folder.

Does anyone know how to hide this folder in This PC? Thanks.

So your main User folder has become the 3D Objects folder (meaning anything that needs to access your User folder would get

lost and not be able to save, or may crash, etc. due to the new Folder name ) ?

When you open the 3D Objects/User folder you see the normal User stuff such as Photos, Music, Documents, etc. and a
3D Objects folder ?

If there is a 3D Objects folder within the renamed User folder, are you able to rename your User folder back ?

- Not clear on what method you used when tried to relocate the folder and "accidentally set it to my user folder"
though.

Was this in the 3D Objects Folders > Properties > Location tab ?

If so, try going back to Location and clicking on Restore, or try the Move option again.

- Failing that go the distance and try full a System Restore to a time before the bungle.

- Or you may have to repair/create a new User Account.

Basically - "Enable built-in administrator by following the steps below, create a new user profile, transfer all the data from the corrupted user


to the newly created user profile and check if the issue is resolved."...
Then delete your original now empty folder.

 

3D Objects Icon used for moved User folder

I have successfully moved the User files (ie) C:\Users\[UserName] to a data drive D:\User by using the Location tab on each individual folder (ie) Pictures, Music etc I then right clicked the D:\User folder itself and chose Customize to choose an icon for it. I reluctantly chose the 3D Objects icon. the User folder took on the 3D Objects icon. All was good, but after a reboot, the User folder changed names to 3D Objects. I have renamed 3D Objects back to User, and changed the icon to something different. The name change and Icon sticks in the root of D:\ but the icon in the Quick Access list is still 3D Objects, but not the User folder name, which is still User, the new icon shows in D:\ After a reboot or 2 the icon and the folder name changes to 3D Objects again. And I have to rename it again and choose a different Icon. Is there a way to stop this?
