Windows 10: Deceased Mother's Microsoft Account

Dear Staff:My mother, Linda E. Anderson, passed away in June of this year and I inherited the Walmart Dell laptop that I ran to the store to buy for her. I will need her information to log into Windows so that I may re-install it again for my own use. Dell has already given me the Administration Password, but the laptop will not boot the Rom in the DVD player. Not only will her account need to be deactivated but I just need the ability to log into the account once 24 hours to re-register it in my name since I've registered it already with Dell. So sorry for your loss. I am afraid Microsoft may not be able to give you account access as this is for your security. The best scenario in your case is to contact Microsoft Support as this is just a forum with very little participation from MSFT.

I suggest you backup your personalized files first before removing the account.
To delete an account, follow these steps:

1. Press WIN + X keys and click Command Prompt (Admin) from the menu.
