Windows 10: Decrypt Autounlocked bitlockerdrive after decrypting OS drive

I have a question about encrypting additional drives using bitlocker

I had the following setup.


C: OS drive encrypted with bitlocker using a password no tpm

I then encrypted the D: drive as well. if memory serves me I did not supply any additional password
This drive was autounlocked, so when entering the bitlocker password at boot it was enough to decrypt both of the drives.
Then I had to decrypt the C: drive using the password this was done by mounting the disk in another OS and decrypting the drive using the password

I now have the C OS drive decrypted but my D: drive is still encrypted. I am not able to decrypt the D drive it using the same Password.
The D drive have 2 key protectors configured: RecoveryPassword and ExternalKey.

My guess is that I'm screwed since I do not have the Recovery Key for the D: drive.

Can anybody explain how the additional drive was autounlocked and if there is any possibility that there is a key left on the C: drive that can be used to unlock the D: drive again? I want to get my head around where and how the external key was used to decrypt the additional drive.

Was the External Key deleted when I decrypted the C drive?

Decryption

I encrypted my other HDD I use for storage for specific reasons, so I started the decryption process and my computer went to sleep mode not finishing the decryption. Now at startup it will start the decryption process but will only do it for about 2
or 3 minutes, the decryption process stops and all of a sudden that drive just disappears. How can I fix this problem? Did the decryption process corrupt my drive while it went to sleep mode? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
