Windows 10: Decrypt drives (Bitlocker) using only USB drive, no typing of password.

I've read a little about Bitlocker and I don't think it's possible, so as a last resort I'll ask here. What I need is, after encrypting my HDs, that they are decripted if a USB with the key is present, but without having to type a password at any point (what I understood from a couple of tutorials is that I have to type a password even with the USB present). So after a reboot, Windows is restarted and unlocks the drives, without any user intervention, if the USB stick is present, of course. Having a password as a fallback in case I lose the stick would be a plus but not necessary.

I have Windows 10 professional, my hardware is recent so I _believe_ I have TPM, secure boot and whatnot, that could influence the possibilities

Finally, if Bitlocker doesn't offer this specific funcionality, I accept suggestions of free software which do.

External drives being locked by Windows 10

Hi Chris,

To address your concern, follow the steps below on how to disable Bitlocker.

• Connect the removable hard drive.
  
• Type in your password, and click on the Unlock button.
• Open the Control Panel, and click on the BitLocker Drive Encryption icon.
  
• Click on Turn Off BitLocker for the drive letter for the removable hard drive or USB flash drive that you want to decrypt.
• Click on the Decrypt Drive button
  
• BitLocker will now start decrypting the drive.
• When finished, click on the Close button.

Bitlocker drive got currupted

From the description, it appears that you were able to recover the data using third party application. So now, are you trying to encrypt/decrypt the bit locker in Windows 10?

I suggest you to check the below steps and see if it helps.

To Encrypt Drive Partition using Bitlocker you need to access BitLocker Encryption Window First. For this,

• 
  Open
  Cortana Search.
  
• 
  Type
  BitLocker in the search field.
  
• 
  And in the search results select
  Manage BitLocker option.
  
• 
  BitLocker
  Drive Encryption window pops up on your screen.
  

How to Encrypt Drive Partition using Bitlocker

• 
  By following the above steps, you are into the
  BitLocker Drive Encryption window.
  
• 
  Now you can see all the drives of your computer listed on that window.
  
• 
  Look for the drive that you want to encrypt and click on
  Turn On BitLocker option of that drive to Encrypt Drive Partition using Bitlocker.

  Another
  BitLocker Encryption window will appear on your screen.

  Here you will be asked
  How you want to unlock the drive.

  You have two options,
  password and smart card. I opted for the password method. So click on
  Use a password to unlock this drive.

  You will see that encrypted drive is locked.

  When you double-click it to open it, you will be asked to provide the

  Notification Area of the Taskbar, a pop-up box will appear showing you the encryption process going on in the background of the desktop.

  After the completion of the encryption, you will be informed about it.

How to turn bitlocker "again" on a drive which was previously bitlocker decrypted? Please Help!

Hi,

Device encryption helps protect your data by encrypting ("scrambling") it. Only someone with the right encryption key (like a password) can decrypt ("unscramble") it.

• Sign in to Windows with an administrator account.
• Go to Start, enter encryption, and select
  Change device encryption settings from the list of results.
• Select Manage BitLocker, select Turn on BitLocker, and then follow the instructions.
