Windows 10: Default Apps Keep Resetting

Hi All

This is driving me mental.

I have the latest, updated, version of Windows 10 and am on a new i7 with 32GB RAM etc.

I keep changing my default apps in Window 10 and they keep getting reset… here are some of the examples:

.pdf from IE to Acrobat
.html from IE to Google Chrome
.php files to Dreamweaver

There are more however these are ones that I am having issues with now.

I have defiantly set them correctly then out of the blue I get a popout notification that a default app has been reset for no reason.

Has anyone else had this issue and/or knows how to fix it.

Any help would be great.

Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild


Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.

 

Default programs repeatedly reset to "MS" programs/apps


I had the same problem.
Possible causes:

1. Acrobat preference does not work and if you click on it, it will reset to Windows default acrobat reader with the message:
   
   
   
2. If Windows has update for Acrobat reader App, it will reset it to default.

Just set it from Control Panel->Default Programs->Set Your default programs
High lite Acrobat then click on: Set this program as default.
