  1. Default audio device keeps resetting to monitor speakers on bootup or restart.

I recently started having an issue with windows defaulting my audio output to my monitor speakers instead of my headset that is plugged into the rear audio jack. I wasn't having this issue at all until recently where i booted up my PC one afternoon and audio was playing out of the monitor instead of the headset. Everytime I go into the sound settings from the task bar and set the output back to my headset, windows defaults it back to my monitor whenever I restart or boot up from a shutdown. I've also clicked the "disable" box with the monitor output selected in the sound settings but windows keeps defaulting it back to the monitor anyway after every restart.

Anyone know a fix for this? Pretty annoying to have to manually set my headset as my default audio output every single time i start up.

  2. How To Change Monitor Audio To Motherboard Audio

    Hi Saurav,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

In order to get clarity on this issue and assist you with appropriate troubleshooting steps, please reply with the answers to the questions below.

    1. Do you want to use your external speakers for the audio instead of the monitor speakers?
    2. Are you hearing the audio both from your external speakers and the monitor speakers?

Meanwhile, you may try the below steps to change the playback device and check if this helps.

    1. Select on the Start button > Type Sound in the search box > Select
Sound from the list of results.
    2. Go to Playback tab > Select your Sound System Device that you want to hear the audio from > Then click on
      Set Default.
    3. Restart the computer once and check if this helps.

We're looking forward to your response.

  3. Set new audio device default for volume mixer in Windows 10

    I use two audio devices:

    • Default (audio) device "Realtec Digital Output (Optical)"
    • Default communication device "Lautsprecher (Speaker)"

    My goal:
I want to have the default audio volume on my default communication device, instead of the default device - at all times.

    What I tried so far:
Changing the volume mixer to my communication device explicitly works temporary, but as soon as I close the settings window, the default audio volume is reset again to the default audio device.

Step 1: Clicking on volume shows me the default device:

Step 2: Changing the volume mixer to my communication device manually:

Step 3: Clicking again on volume does not keep the change Default audio device keeps resetting to monitor speakers on bootup or restart. :(

How can I make it permanent that windows uses my communication device for default volume control?

    Hi,

If you're using external speakers, we suggest that you set the device as default. Here are the steps:

    • Open Start, enter Sound, select it from the list of results.
    • On the Playback tab, select a device, then Set Default.
    See

If the same instance occurs, kindly perform the following steps on how to completely uninstall and reinstall the sound driver:

    • Go to Start Menu > search for Device Manager.
    • Expand Sound and audio devices.
    • Right-click on the current sound driver > choose uninstall.
    • Restart your computer.
    • Download the latest sound driver from the device manufacturer's website.
Keep us posted with the progress. We'd be glad to further assist you.
