  1. Default Document Save to Desktop

I have tried all of the online suggestions with my new HP computer with the latest version of Windows.I want to automatically save documents to my desktop, but all the suggestions don't work.I see 'Where new content is saved' and the only options are Windows C: - there is an arrow dropdown but the system will not let me enter anything into the drop down. I have tried multiple searches, all the AI suggestions, all the old Microsoft suggestions and nothing works.

    :)

Can word processor documents be sent to desktop vs Documents folder

    That's a different question.
You want to know how to change the default.
Only by 'relocating' your user Documents folder to your Desktop. Move Location of Documents Folder - TenForumsTutorials but it seems a very big step to take just to satisfy WordPad.
I would not be at all surprised to find that somebody has discovered a Registry hack to do what you want more directly & without relocating the Documents folder.

    Saving Word documents to desktop

Office 365 includes OneDrive (cloud) and the default save location is OneDrive

OneDrive is not a backup, it’s a cloud location of your data.

The default installation of Office 365 and its OneDrive component uploads all the contents of the PC \My Documents\ folders to OneDrive, (syncs) and there will be a OneDrive folder in File Explorer containing all the OneDrive content. And in Word etc the default Save location is set to OneDrive.

Its very unwise to save docs to the desktop, its not a safe place, if you don't have 365 then you save to \My Documents\

  4. Default Document Save to Desktop

    Default location to save documenets

    Hi Frank,

    Sorry for the delayed response.

From your recent description, it seems like the issue is confined to Word documents. If true, then follow the steps below and check if it helps.

    • Launch Word application.
    • Go to File Menu and select Options.
    • In the pop-up dialog box, towards the left pane, select Save.
    • Under Default location file, browse the location you want to save.
    • Check if the issue persists.

    Hope this helps.
