    Default file type to Microsoft Excel worksheet instead of XLSX file


    Hello, Due to some error in opening of excel file I had to change the default file type under .XLSX file, It was changed to XLSX file instead of Microsoft excel worksheet, now I want change it back to original but I am unable to do the same, kindly check highlighted image below & suggest.Thank youShripad Mokashe

    downloading excel file changes file extension to .xlsx


    Hi there

    I can only rename the file which does not affect the file extension. Interestingly, when I have successfully downloaded the file using my Chromodo browser it is shown as an 'excel 97 - 2003 worksheet', whilst via Microsoft edge it is shown as an 'excel worksheet'.

    .XLSX is a file extension for an open XML spreadsheet used by Microsoft Excel. For us to better assist you, we'd like to know the following:

    • Confirm which build is currently installed on your device. To check, follow the steps below:
    • Press Windows key + R, then type in winver.
    • Click OK.
    • Is Microsoft Excel installed on your computer? If yes, which version of Microsoft Excel are you using?
    • Are you getting any error messages when opening the .xlsx files?
    • Did you create the said file or was it downloaded from a certain source?

    Default App for .xlsx files

    I own and have installed Office 2010. Somehow, I seem to have a license for Office 365, but have not "activatged" it. My system recently changed the default app for .xlsx files to trying to install and use the Excel 2016 version instead of the 2010 version,
    if I select an .xlsx file from windows explorer. Since this is my preferred method to open files, it has become aggravating. How to I revert to 2010 as the default version of Excel? Thanks.
