Windows 10: Default gateway not available

Help!
I've searched for hours for help on this issue and can't seem to solve my limited internet issue.

First it was showing up: IP not configured correctly

I input the following (which I found off another random site so don't even know if it's right)

IP: 192.168.1.101
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.1

DNS: 8.8.8.8
Alt DNS: 8.8.4.4

Prior to this it was reading something like 164.... Which I saw on another website that this had to be incorrect and it required updating..

Now I receive an error saying the default gateway is not available?

From device manager I've searched and all drives are up to date

Ive got Windows 10, 64-bit operating system

I'm no IT guru.. but I can follow instructions so if you could dum it down for me and help that would be much appreciated.

Default Gateway not available?

After months of intermitent Wifi and getting this message along with a problem with the power not always shutting off or the machine not walking up from sleep - I get from the HP help desk ( with all the setting changes etc and running a diagnostic that
my adapter was fine) I get a supervisor approval to send the machine in - get transferred to the hardware guys and they are immediately - oh motherboard issue - we will replace it. When pressed on all the time I spent with HP tech support - the response -
well sometimes we can find a work around people don't like to send in their computers. Well people don't like to spend hours dealing with this stuff either. So if you are still under warranty (probably would have to be extended) or you have been dealing
with this and called HP before your warranty was up - they will likely ask you to back up and restore the computer to factory - when that doesn't solve the problem ( which if you are reading this it likely won't) then they will send you over to hardware -
who actually seem to have a clue. If you are out of warranty- then I would be probably be looking for a new computer. Can't tell you how miffed I am this took 5 months to resolve - although I will take the blame for some of that - and often the setting adjustments
would staff of the problem for a few weeks - but eventually the "fixes" won't fix - so my advise push them early.

 

Default Gateway not available?

Hello.

For about a month I've been having bad internet connection problems. Not sure what is causing it. I get a myriad of errors and they're all different each time.

Sometimes it's a connection pointis broke, dns server not responding. Most of the time it's default gateway not available. I have no idea what's causing this. I spoke to virgin about it and they sent me a new router a few weeks ago
but it keeps happening so I don't think it's the router.

Some of the following things I've tried:

-resetting TCP/IP -using static DNS and DHCP, both have the same issue -refreshing the winsock entries -updating driver -rolling back driver -disabling antivirus and firewall

Nothing has worked. It's very annoying to deal with. Anybody have any advice?

I have Windows 10/ Using a HP Laptop.

I never had these issues with Windows 7. Some issue with 8 but not as bad as this.

 

Welcome to the forums. What type router are you using? Try using DHCP. Try going into the router settings and make sure DHCP server is enabled.
