Windows 10: "Default Gateway Unavailable" Windows 10 only on Ethernet

For the past few weeks I have had my internet connection drop off due to the default gateway not available error. Every time I have to wait until the troubleshooter recognizes their is not internet connect and trouble shoot. This repairs the problem for all of 5 minutes before it occurs again. I have done the following to try and fix the problem;

1.) Uninstall the network driver and restart the computer
2.) Manually update the network adapter
3.) Download the latest drivers off Intel's website
4.) Changing power saving modes on both router/modem and network adapter
5.) Completely change out the home router/modem


None of these solutions has given a permanent solution, most only remedy for a short time before the error continues to occur.
It does not happen through WiFi connect but my PC does not have an internal adapter, so I forced to use an external which limits the speed by quite a bit just to get a stable internet connection.

Default gateway unavailable

Since installing win 10 I have the following problem

"default gateway unavailable"

my ethernet contoroler is Atheros L1 Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-T Controller

I can reset the card and it works for a couple of minutes or hours, then the problem returns

Any suggestions

Hi There,

A recent Update (on 15th Sept) installed an updated Broadcom driver that was causing this issue for me. To solve it I had to roll back the driver to the previous version via the Windows device manager - no more default gateway issues and loss of internet
on the Ethernet connection.

 

Ethernet issues - no default gateway

Try adding default gateway.

It's IP adress is adress of your modem or router (it depends where your ethernet connection is plugged in)
