Windows 10: Default PDF handler changes to Edge on every boot or login to Windows

Hi there,I have around 30 people in our org who since last week have started to see that Edge is defaulting to the be the default PDF handler over Adobe Acrobat whenever they boot the machine or log out and log back into Windows. Nothing has changed from us IT to cause this behavior. We also have a policy in Intune which forces Acrobat to be the default handler and we've had that policy in place for over a year now but only recently has this issue come up. Is this a known bug that has recently started? Thanks!

Preview handler defaults to MS Edge despite Edge not being default PDF viewer

I have an issue where the default PDF preview handler that drives the Preview pane in MS explorer as well as in MS outlook, defaults to an MS Edge base preview handler. The only way I know of setting it back is by triggering the set to default .pdf reader within my default .pdf reader software. Is there a way of stopping this happening? (Happens once or twice a week, I estimate).

 

How to prevent Windows 10 to change my default PDF-handler to Adobe Acrobat Reader instead of Edge?

I'm using Windows 10 on three computers. After updating Windows, my default handler of PDF-files is changed to Edge. I want to use Acrobat Reader. (I have to sign documents in Acrobat).

 

Override Edge from PDF default

  Did you make any changes to the PC prior to this issue?
  

Follow the steps to set the default programs and check if that helps.

• 
  Press Windows logo key on the keyboard, type Default programs and select the top most search result.
  
• 
  Click on Set your Default programs and select the programs listed in the left side panel of the window to set defaults.
  
• 
  Follow the on-screen instructions.
  

Close the window after setting the programs and check if the changes are effective.

If the issue persists, follow these additional steps and check if that helps.

• 
  Press Windows logo key on the keyboard, type Default programs and select the top most search result.
  
• 
  Click on Associate a file type or protocol with a program option from the window.
  
• 
  Click on the file type or protocol that you want to change and click on Change program.
  
• 
  Follow the on-screen instructions.
  

Close the window after setting the programs defaults and check if the changes are effective.
