  1. Defender definition updates force a reboot on me every day, disrupting my work

Almost every single day, my Windows 10 computer undergoes a forced reboot and this disrupts my work and it is very frustrating.

After the reboot, I notice that I received a new Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus.

It seems if I walk away from my computer for more than 15 minutes or so, there is a good chance I will come back to find that it has rebooted on me due to a virus definition update for the day.

I can't seem to find any way to stop these forced reboots from happening or to give me control over them.

These virus definition updates seem to happen at random times, even during my "working hours" that I have specified for general Windows Updates to avoid.

These virus definition updates don't seem to be tied to the other Windows Updates, because even when I had temporarily paused my Windows Updates as a test I still received a Security Intelligence Update and it still forced my computer to reboot.

Is there a way I can either:

.... schedule a time for when these virus definition updates should occur

.... have it prompt me before a reboot, so I can perform the reboot when it is convenient for me

    This is very frustrating!

    :)

  2. Windows Defender: Do Windows Defender definition updates force reboot?

I need a definite answer for this as it's regarding server environment (Windows Server 2016 Datacenter).

Will Windows Defender definition updates force a reboot?

I want this to be run automatically on a server, but cannot let it to automatically reboot it.

Can someone from Microsoft Support confirm this?

    Windows Defender Definition Updates.

Thank you Elba for the prompt reply. However, there is a problem: In "Control Panel" under the "Programs and Features" page > "View Installed Updates" the " Windows Defender Definition Updates" are NOT listed. Consequently, I cannot delete/uninstall them.
The same thing happens when I use "Settings" >" Updates & Security" > "View Update History". Here the Definition Updates are all listed but I can't uninstall them either. Any other suggestions?

    Thanks again, Fred

Defender definition updates force a reboot on me every day, disrupting my work

Updating definitions in windows 10 Defender.

How come Defender doesn't check my last definitions download and update them if they are not current? Windows 10 will notify me to run a scan but, with definitions that are always as much as a couple of days old. I know that definitions come on windows
update but that does not happen every day. I would suggest that every time you run defender that it would download definitions first just to make sure they are the most recent.
