Hello-I'm trying to get my PCs to download Windows Defender definitions from my WSUS server. WSUS has downloaded the definitions and it shows the client computers need the definition updates.I've configured a GPO for WSUS, and for Windows Defender definitions updates I've enabled the setting: Define the order of sources for downloading definition updates" and entered a value of "InternalDefinitionUpdateServer".The problem I'm having is that on my Win10 computers, when I go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Check for updates, t

Hello

windows 10 clients are set to get definition update from wsus server.

Clients does not any gateway since we restrict internet.

Clients are able to get windows update successfully from local WSUS server but they are not able to update defender definition update.

They get error:

Protection definition update failed.

Error Code: :-2147012721

WSUS updates and defender definition updates problem with W10 LTBS 1607

Environment

A number of windows 10 PRO are running and WSUS properly provides updates for them.

Recently a number of Dell 5070 WES clients with preinstalled W10 IOT (current version is W10 LTBS 1607 Enterprise edition) have been deployed.

Settings for WSUS

In products list:

In addition to other W10 editions selected W10, W10 LTBS and a number of other versions. I also selected Windows Defender.

In classification:

Selected Critical Updates, Definition Updates, Security Updates, Service Packs, Updates Rollups, Upgrades.

Definitions updates are set to be automatically approved.

W10 LTBS updates and definitions

WSUS recognizes Wyse 5070 devices as Windows 10 Enterprise 2016 LTBS but It does not show any current failed/needed updates for these devices Defender defenitions updates are not being deployed.

Online updates with Microsoft does work: patches/updates can be downloaded and installed and defender definitions are applied automatically.

 

WSUS - Servers not reporting in

Hi All,

I am busy with WSUS in a lab running off my laptop. Details are as follows:

1. 1 x Domain Controller running Windows Server 2019
2. 1 x WSUS Server running Windows Server 2019
3. 1 x Windows Server 2016 VM

I've installed WSUS on #2 and it's busy downloading updates I have selected. However, try as I might, I cannot get the other 2 servers to report in. Further information:

• All firewalls are disabled;
• I can ping via name/IP successfully;
• I can successfully run nslookup;
• I cannot browse the http://servername:8530 site (in spite of generating the SS;
• 2 GPOs were created (one for Test, one for PRD) and linked/enabled on the domain;
• WSUS Service running on the other 2 VMs.

What can I check to ensure that this works? The GPOs are applied, but do I need OUs within AD itself and the servers placed in those, or is leaving them in the default container fine for now? Like I said, it's for test purposes, but I obviously need to get
it running for further trials/tests I'd like to do.
