    Hello Tech Team,

As a regular part of my System maintenance, I defrag my drives C and one external 3T my book drive. I was wondering what happens to the RECOVER drive that Windows created upon install. Does it mirror my C drive by some sort of API or process? If it does not, do I need to manually recreate or update the data on my WINDOWS RECOVERY drive?

I've NEVER found the internal System application for WIndows to work- at all, so I've always turned to other tools.

I was using IOBit Smart defrag, but recently, I go through the motions of defragging it, and it LOOKS as if it completed its actions, but then when I re-analyze the defrag percentage is the same as before I performed the defrag. SO I am trying different programs right now. So if anyone has any suggestions on this, I'd appreciate that information also. At this moment I am testing DISKEEPER.

Any information you can provide would be great.

    Thank you! -TeknoDiva

    :)

    Defragment and Optimize Drives Problem

    Hi Edward,

Based on the details you have provided, your C drive was unrecognized by the system. We suggest that you run these
commands and see if there are any changes:

    • Open
      Command Prompt
      as
      Administrator.

    • Run
      the following commands:

      • To fix any logical file errors:

        • Chkdsk C: /f /r

      • To defrag your Drive C manually:

        • Defrag C: /D /U

Update us on how it goes.

    Regards.

    Defragment C Drive

Defragmenting your hard drive will NOT result in more available space. You need to actually delete things.

By default, Windows 7 runs defrag once a week. You probably have installed some antivirus program or "optimizer" utility that has taken over scheduling defrag. See, e.g.,

    https://www.sevenforums.com/performance-maintenance/59129-disk-defragmenter-scheduled-using-another-program.html

Instead of worrying about defrag, download and run TreeSize Free. This will show you what is taking up space on the drive and from that you can decide what to delete.

If you find that the culprit is that C:\Windows\TEMP is being consumed with hundreds of files with names following the pattern "cab_XXXX_X" you are suffering from the known "CAB file bug." Directions for dealing with this are here:
