Windows 10: Delay when opening windows apps

I have a delay when opening some Windows 10 programs. It is most noticeable with Firefox, Chrome and Edge. There is a 10-20 second delay in opening.

It's not just browsers though, for example WinSCP takes an age to load as does Notepad++ and Snagit.

It doesn't happen with all programs - EG: Word loads in seconds. As does Photoshop.

My system is an i9 9900k with a RTX2080ti, 64Gb of DDR4. The boot and programs drive is an NVME 2Tb Firecuda. I have a secondary NVME drive in there as well. There are several other mechanical spinners in the system used for backup and games.

Everything is updated to the latest versions from Windows to Geforce Experience.

The only antivirus I have is a paid for version of Norton.

Any ideas please ? (I suspect Norton)

Mail app will not open on 10041.

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it.

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

• Open powershell as administrator
• Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
• Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)

 

Mail app will not open on 10041.

I did that to no avail, then I ran WSReset.exe; now I'm good on all 3, Mail, Calendar and People! *Confused
Go figure!

I suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the Mail app and configure the account again. Please follow the steps to uninstall the mail app.

Please follow the following steps:

• • Open the Task manager. Here’s a tip: Press CTRL+Shift+ESC.
  • Click File > Run New Task
  • Make sure you have a check mark beside “Create this task with administrative privileges”
  • Type Powershell.
  • This will open a new powershell.
  • Type the following get-appxpackage *microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps*
    
    | remove-appxpackage

After performing uninstallation, I suggest you to reinstall the app from Windows store and check if it helps.
