How to: Delete $GetCurrent folder in Windows 10

Information The $GetCurrent folder is a hidden folder that is created in the root directory of the C drive during the upgrade process.

The $GetCurrent folder contains log files about the last Windows 10 upgrade process, and may also contain the installation files for that update. The $GetCurrent folder can take up around 3.38 GB or so of space if it does contain leftover Windows Update installation files. Otherwise, it would only be around a small 192 KB in size.

If you don’t need to review the log files and have successfully finished installing the latest Windows Update, you can safely delete the $GetCurrent folder.

This tutorial will show you how to safely delete the $GetCurrent folder in Windows 10.

You must be signed in as an administrator to delete the $GetCurrent folder.

    CONTENTS:
    • Option One: To Delete $GetCurrent Folder in File Explorer
    • Option Two: To Delete $GetCurrent Folder in Elevated Command Prompt

    $GetCurrent folder - Can I delete

My windows.old folder disappeared today. From what I have read this is expected behaviour.
But folder $GetCurrent is still there?
I tried Disk Cleanup, but, there is no option for 'Previous windows installations'?

So can I delete $GetCurrent folder? If so how? Right click> delete?

C windows installer folder - Delete?

He can do symbolic link redirection and move the files in it to a different location. *Wink Delete $GetCurrent folder in Windows 10 ;)
Better try it out in a virtual of first. Just a suggestion.

    Like:
First move everything in c:\windows\installer to d:\installercache
    Then delete c:\windows\installer folder
Then type this in command mode as admin
    mklink /d c:\windows\installer d:\installercache

Removing those installer files is a bad idea. it might prevent you from updating or uninstalling apps.

    Safe to Delete this Folder?

    HiJames

Yes that folder is safe to delete, it is left over form a Windows 10 Upgrade and not required by your system

The 3 common folders you may find after a Windows Upgrade are listed below and they can always be deleted safely after the upgrade completes:

    $GetCurrent

    $WINDOWS.~BT

    $Windows.~WS

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
