Windows 10: Delete unused/unnecessary files

Hello,
Recently had to make some changes to associate files to programs. Have noticed in the list lot of unknown files, dont know where they came from. Previously (on win7) had installed "AVG tuneup" program, it had the exact function to clean these files, but did not insall that program again. Looked in "CCleaner" - it has not similar function.
Is there some way to get rid of the 'unknown' files which are not associated to any installed program (except system files) ?

Delete Unused Prfetch Files

Hi,

To view the prefetch folder, kindly follow the steps below:

• Press Windows key + R
• Type in "C:/WINDOWS/Prefetch" without the quotation.

By then, you can now view the list of prefetch on your Windows. You can determine which prefetch to delete by its filename and the date that it has been modified. You can also check its properties for the details of the said prefetch files. To delete it, right-click
the said prefetch and then, click Delete.

Lol ... I've read a lot of nutty posts here ... this one takes the cake ...

 

All the files types are defined in the registry under the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. These don't really take up much space, so there really isn't any reason to remove them plus you could accidentally remove a needed file type.
