Windows 10: Deleted folder still showing on desktop

I seem to have this problem frequently. I delete a folder from my desktop, and it vanishes as expected. Then, some time later perhaps after the computer has been locked or gone to sleep I find the same folder or folders back on the desktop.


Attempting to delete the folder again prompts a dialog box with the message:


Item Not Found

Could not find this item

This is no longer located in C:\UsersmeDesktop. Verify the item's location and try again.


Any ideas?

Trouble deleting a folder

Thanks for the suggestion but it says "delete folder failed for E:\....." for each folder I try.

Will I be forever stuck with these unnecessary folders? *Oh Well hwell:

Suggestion:

1. Run chkdsk x: /r to make sure that there's no HD corruption.
   x: is the drive containing the folder you want to delete.
2. Try to delete the folder again. If still does not work, go to step 3.
3. Download: Download - Linux Mint and create a bootable USB using: Rufus - Create bootable USB
4. Boot up with Linux Mint and try to delete the folder again.
   NOTE: Unlike WinPE. Linux does not have any Windows permission imposed to it so it is easier to delete.

 

Can't delete folder from desktop

The "You need permission to perform this action" error shows up because there could be some changes that may affect your computer that's why an administrator rights is needed. Since you're the admin of the computer and still can't delete the folder, we suggest
that you close all of the programs that are running on your computer before deleting the folder. You can also do it in the Task Manager by ending the process of the programs. See the screenshot below:





If the issue persists, you can try to delete the folder in the command line. Here are the steps on how to do so:

• Press the Windows icon + X on your keyboard.
• Choose Command Prompt (Admin).
• Right-click on the folder that you want to delete, then click Properties.
• Copy the Location of the folder. For example (C:\Users\your name\Desktop)
• Go back to Command Prompt, then type in this command RMDIR /S /Q (Location of the folder), then hit
  Enter.
