Windows 10: Deleted/Unsynced One Drive files and now disappeared files from Desktop

I have just, for the first time, gone into the OneDrive settings to stop automatic syncing of files, because I got fed up with the notifications telling me that my OneDrive was almost full - I have the basic 5GB option and I don;t need anymore.


At this point I did not know that files on my Desktop were actually linked with OneDrive, and that by deleting the OneDrive files, that made all my files on my desktop completely delete. Not happy when I booted up and saw an almost blank desktop area.


So, I looked into ways to restore. Having found out that OneDrive has a Recycle Bin, I thought this would be a solution, BUT I then tried restoring to find that I get the message that says 'Sorry can't restore as this would exceed OneDrive storage limits. I don;t understand this as it is 4.7 GB, under the 5GB limit.


I would be happy if I could restore this desktop folder, and I can then look at ways of preventing this happening again, now that I know that Desktop and OneDrive are linked - it was a surprise/shock to find that my Desktop storage and OneDrive are one and the same location.


This was done yesterday, by the way.

Cant Delete Files From Desktop

Well, ran into a weird bug with vista, for some reason i cant delete files from desktop, this normaly happens to .exe files, the ONLY fix seems to be to KILL explorer.exe, and delete the file, then restat explorer, anybody got any idea why this happens?

Step 1 - I upgraded to Win 10 and lost all my files on Desktop.

Step 2 - Found the files in Network - USers- Desktop

copied all files again to desktop.

Step 3- Restarted my machine again and lost desktop files again.

Step 4 - As suggested did the following as listed below but dont find my files.

• Press “Windows + E”, open This PC/Computer
• Open Local Disc C, open Windows.old
• Click on Users, select your User name
• Go to desktop folder

Cant find my files. Why is Win 10 deleted files again and again from Desktop ?.

May we know what type of file are you trying to delete? Would it be Office documents, media files, or picture files? If you're trying to delete files for free some space on your device. We suggest to perform a Disc Cleanup. Kindly follow the steps below to

• Type in Cortana Disc Cleanup
  
• Choose the files to delete
  
• Click on "Clean up system files"
