Deleting Emails- Defender slows up the process / CPU use jumps way up

I decided to give Defender a try about a week ago and deleted Avast A/V.I use Pegasus for my email software and when I delete a group of emails, the CPU usage jumps way up and Pegasus says NOT RESPONDING for quite a while. Task manager shows that Antimalware Service Executable / Defender starts using significant CPU!I'm not downloading emails which is clearly something I need A/V protection for, I'm just moving emails from one folder to the Deleted Folder. Is this normal? Is there a way to stop this? Thanks

    :)
