Windows 10: Deleting shortcut from the public desktop causes it to reappear in all user desktops

Hello, I'm setting up a custom windows 10 IoT image, and one of the requirements is to prevent shortcuts from appearing on the regular user's desktop when installing applications with the technician account. What happens when I try to delete a shortcut from C:\Public\Desktop is that the next time the regular user logs in, the shortcut reappears in C:\user\Desktop. My current workaround is to have a script in the user's shell:startup that deletes the shortcuts on the desktop after they reappear, but there has to be a better way, right?

Desktop shortcuts

Shortcuts can "live" in two places:

• In your own profile folder (C:\Users\Luke\Desktop). They are visible to you only.
• In the public profile folder (C:\Users\Public\Desktop). They are visible to all users.

You should now know why the deleted shortcut disappeared from both desktops.

Deleting a shortcut does NOT delete the file or folder it refers to. I recommend you run some tests to confirm this.

 

Deleted folder shortcut keeps reappearing on desktop

Hello all. I recently deleted several shortcuts from my desktop. Now however, I'm having an odd issue. One of the deleted folder shortcuts keeps reappearing. I've deleted it the conventional way and with the "Shift+Delete key" method but to no avail. Someone told me it was OneDrive, but although I do have it installed, I've never used it. Any suggestions?

 

User OneDrive Desktop not showing Public Desktop folder (C:\Users\Public\Public Desktop) contents.

Across our organization we recently migrated to OneDrive for users. ( including their desktop )

I'm now finding that shortcuts added to (C:\Users\Public\Public Desktop) are not showing up on the users specific desktop inside their windows profile desktop on their screen.

MANY configuration scripts leave a public desktop shortcut.

How do I update the users so that these appear as expected?
