Maybe the best option, if you can return it, get one of the AMD versions?

  2. I've seen other posts/threads mentioning an HDMI in port on all in ones. I was skeptical at first but it was confirmed some have it. One thing it lets you do is you use it as a TV (monitor) with your cable box. Or hook it up to your game console. Any device with an HDMI out I guess. I'd rather have dual monitor support than an input.

Thanks. We have gone with this adapter with, I might add, some trepidation! I'll post back if it works.

  5. I use a USB 3 monitor with my laptop. Performance is fine for what I do on it. I haven't noticed any lag or delay. It's purpose built USB 3 though, no adapter needed. Powered via USB too. Makes it nice and portable, I keep it with my laptop in my laptop carry bag. MB168B | Monitors | ASUS Global Fit and finish was an exact match to my laptop a K75DE. Makes it look like it came with it. It worked out great for me. Nice and thin and lite. Windows 10 installs the DisplayLink driver automatically when I plug it in for the first time. Then one reboot and its all set to go.

That adapter should fix you up and get you going with dual monitors. I run triple monitors on my desktop, spoiled I know. What can I say, there is no going back to a single display for me now. Even on my laptop lol. Well sometimes I don't connect the second display, all depends on how long I think I'll be using it, and where I am. Anyway, there are lots of options these days to get things done.

    Thanks, good to know.

We spoke with the retailer of our soon to arrive USB3 - HDMI connector and it was reckoned that the gadget would transmit (is that the right word?) both the display and the sound.

Remember, we wanted to be able to play youtube videos etc on our Panasonic TV as it is a large screen with a decent but nothing special sound system added.

If we can achieve this *Biggrin, if not *Mad. Time will tell.

  7. The HDMI standard includes audio, so it should work. The monitor its connected too will have to have internal speakers for that to work though. My external monitor doesn't have speakers, not a problem for me, my laptop audio is set as the default device. Sound is played through my laptops speakers. Same deal for my desktop PC. My main screen, HDMI, doesn't have internal speakers. I have my motherboards onboard sound set as default and sound is played through the external speakers.

    Dell All-in-One HDMI problem

    Thanks.

Our main concern now is whether both sound and video sent via the USB 3 to an HDMI socket on an aged Panasonic TV would simulate HDMI-out on the computer to HDMI-in on the TV. The question, therefore, is whether a USB 3 port can actually "transmit" both video and sound from the same source.

The little gadget mentioned earlier is purported to be able to deal with that once the drivers are installed. We have been advised by the distributor that in many cases, Windows 10 recognises the gadget without the need to install the driver provided. We shall see.

I wonder whether Dell should provide both HDMI-in and HDMI-out on their computers.

Will report back on progress, possibly next week as we are visiting family.

    Again, thanks.

  9. I see what your saying now that I gave it more thought. I have a couple of laptop docking stations that connect to the laptop via USB. They don't have HDMI but they do have sound jacks for speakers. Basically a USB sound card and a USB video card. I have to go and change the default audio device in Windows for them to work. Hopefully yours does what you want.
