    Dell desktop W10 home idling at night; internet prevents sleep


    This machine is idle all night and I prefer it to sleep. It will do so in the normal way but only when internet service is interrupted, turn off ethernet, turn off router, etc. When internet is present the machine attempts to sleep in the normal way however a few seconds after it begins sleep it wakes up again, and this cycle repeats all night. Is there some setting I can change to stop internet service from waking the machine?

    Prevent Windows to enter sleep mode

    After installing a fresh load of windows 10 pro with the ver. 1511 update, if the computer is left idle for 2 minutes it goes to sleep. I have even set power options to never and it still goes to sleep if left idle for 2 minutes. Any suggestions? I am
    using a desktop (not touch screen)

    Thanks for following the steps. Now, the settings won't take effect if you are only using normal PC idle mode. Normal functionality of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi settings are to stay connected even if PC is idle. With the settings that you have created, we would
    suggest that you set your PC to automatically go to Sleep or
    Hibernate     once idle. In this way, the settings "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" should take effect.

    To set your PC to automatically go to Sleep or Hibernate when idle, please follow these steps:

    • Open Control Panel, set view by: Small
      icons.
    • Look for Power Options.
    • Click on Change when the computer sleeps on the left pane.
    • Set a timer.

    What I ended up doing is that...

    1. I set the system's sleep & hibernation timer to "Never" as you suggested and...
    2. I created a .bat file, which sends the system into sleep after a certain idle period. Due to my Away Mode Policy, the computer does not go to normal Sleep, but instead goes into Away Mode instead, because the .bat file is considered as "User intiated action"
    3. I then scheduled the .bat file to be run after a certain time period of idle with Task Scheduler
