Windows 10: Dell dock's ethernet shows no connection after Windows 11 22h2

I installed the 22H2 update this morning, after installation the ethernet port on the dock shows no connection. I had this once before installing an older driver fixed the problem. I have installed all three previous drivers for the ethernet interface and no change. I can take the same ethernet cable and plug directly into the laptop by passing the dock and it works as expected.

Windows 11 22H2 Dell dock does not fully function until after logged into the domain

This did not seem to be an issue on Windows 10 or Windows 11 (original release). But now since Windows 11 22H2 came out, the Dell thunderbolt dock no longer accepts user input, nor does the internal sound or ethernet work - until AFTER you supply your domain credentials on the physical laptop itself. Once the laptop is logged in, then the USB keyboard, mouse through the dock, and the docks internal sound card and ethernet ports all become operational. You can lock your screen and unlock it fine, this just seems to be the first boot or if you fully log off your user account.

I posted about this on a dell forum for the WD19TB dock but they suggest this is a Microsoft Windows issue since it started happening in the 22H2 update of Windows 11. If I plug a Windows 10 Dell laptop into the same dock, all functions work.

Note, that the external display ports and usb-c display work fine off the dock pre-login.... Its just the peripheral connections (KB/Mouse/Ethernet/Sound) and I would imagine any other USB-connected device like a webcam - but I wouldn't be able to tell those due to not being logged in yet.

Why is this an issue? Well, it's much more convenient to use a full-size keyboard and mouse to click and enter credentials. Also, the built-in ethernet is a good reliable network connection.

 

Windows 11 Laptop BSoD About 30 Seconds After Connecting To Ethernet Via Thunderbolt Dock

I seem to have a strange issue that I can find any mention of anywhere. I have a Dell XPS 17 with Windows 11 and a Wavlink Thunderbolt Dock with an ethernet port.

Whenever I connect an ethernet cable, it seems to work perfectly fine and I can even use the internet with it. But every time without fail, after about 30 seconds to a minute the internet stops working and it starts to flicker between ethernet and wifi, the CPU usage spikes to 100%, and then it eventually crashes and shows the blue screen of death.

This has been the case for the almost one year since I got the dock and ran the ethernet cable over to my computer, so I doubt it's an update that's caused it. And it was happening on Windows 10 before I upgraded to Windows 11.

I don't have any other way that I can connect my laptop to ethernet without this dock, and I don't have any other computer with a thunderbolt port, so I can't figure out if it's the computer or the dock.

I've tried completely removing the ethernet adapter from "Device Manager" and then unplugging the dock and plugging it back in so that it gets re-added. And I've tried to update the driver but it says there are no updates available.

I'm really at a loss. I'd be happy to buy another Dock/Adapter of some kind and use that for ethernet, but I'm worried it might be something wrong with the computer and the same thing would happen.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I just try buying a new adapter and see what happens?

Networked Computers Show with WiFi - Not with Dock via Ethernet

I did the SMB fix bro67 suggested. When I plugged up my laptop to the dock, network computers were shown for a few seconds then disappeared. Other devices (Sonos, BrotherMFC, etc.) are showing, but no computers currently (except for the one I'm on).

SWEET! As I was trying to mess around with settings (turned off IPv6, disabled then reenabled Link Layer Topology Discovery and Responder, etc.), I decided to bridge the Realtek Ethernet adapter (Ethernet 3) with the Intel Ethernet adapter (Ethernet 1). I think the built-in ethernet for the laptop is the Intel hardware. The Realtek is in the dock I believe. (I might have those reversed.)

At any rate, after bridging those connections all networked computers now show!!! Finally!
