Windows 10: Dell Inspiron 27 7720 All-in-One: Windows Hello Couldn't Turn on the Camera

When I started my computer today, the Windows Hello face recognition didn't work and said it "Couldn't Turn on the Camera" and to use my pin instead. I haven't been able to figure out how to fix this by searching on here and hoping someone can help me! I'm using a Dell Inspiron 27 7720 All-in-One with Windows 11.

Is the Camera listed in Device Manager ?
My DELL INSPIRON 15-5578 lists a > Realtek IR Camera Driver
My older Dell's used > Dell Webcam Central

 

Windows Hello cannot turn on a camera on Dell 5368

I have a Dell Inspirion 24-7459 with an Intel RealSense 3D Camera and windows hello used to work, but recently (probably after latest updates) it stopped working. Always says cannot turn on camera. The camera works fine for Camera app.

worse still, under sign-in options on settings, it now says "Windows Hello isn't available on this device."

I would say that it is a supported device, listed on "https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows/view-all?type=WindowsHello" and up until recently it worked fine.

of course, it tries to turn on the camera to use windows hello every time I sign in, and takes time to say it cannot turn on the camera. I have to wait for it to fail before I can select another sign in method. What a pain.

I wonder how we can get Microsoft, Dell, and Intel to work together to resolve this?

Before we proceed, I need more information to help you better.



1. Do you get any error message when you try to launch the Camera app?

2. Have you installed the latest driver for the integrated camera on the laptop?

I suggest you to check for Windows updates and install any pending updates on the system to check if it helps. Further, run the Windows App troubleshooter on the system to find out if any issues are found related to the Camera
App.

Method 1 :
Run hardware troubleshooter and check if it helps.

1. Type
Troubleshooting in search box and open it.

2. Click on
Hardware and Sound

3. Click on
Hardware and Devices.

4. Follow the instruction.



Method 2:

The issue would be related to incompatibility of camera driver since the issue is occurring after installing Windows 10. So I suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the driver
latest drivers from the manufacturer website may help to resolve the issue.
