Dell Inspiron 7559 suffering connection issues, red X then weak wifi

My laptop is currently suffering connection issues, first the wifi meter bar has a red x next to it having no connections then a white star appears next to it saying connections are available and it's my main one having weak connection. (Only 1 bar). This issue has been going on for a week.
ive tried updating my network adapters, reverting them to a different version, uninstalling then reinstalling, troubleshooting, I've made sure power saver isn't on for them, I've made sure I have no viruses on my computer, I've done some command prompt things from youtube, and I even put it right next to my router, the connection is still weak. All other devices work just fine and connect greatly, except for this one computer. This happened a week ago and it's starting to bug me, there was not a single sign of this happening, it all just happened out of the blue one day. I've even made sure no drivers were corrupted, none of them were corrupted and were working completely fine.

    Thank you.

    :)

    Hi Ohewf.

What is the make model of your Wireless card? A week ago V1709 was released, did you upgrade Windows 10?

Is your router dual band (2.4 and 5 Ghz). The devices that are not having issues are they on same band.

Locate device where it is normally used. To be sure we are not dealing with network interference and to see what adapter is seeing at a command prompt(admin) or Powershell (admin)

Netsh wlan show all | clip
(produces report on wireless. Once output is produced the " | clip " portion of command places it on clipboard, ready to be pasted.)

Open Notepad and Crtl + V to paste. Save and close text file.

You can review file and see what the adapter is seeing.

If you want you can post file and members can comment.

I apologize for the late reply

Model is: Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165

I believe my Router is Dual Band, the issue only occur later when I'm about 7 feet away from the router the connection gets weak, so I have to be extremely close to the router to get good connection. Otherwise it just says no connections available or connections are available.Maybe I could be wrong.

here are a few results from the scan that caught my eye:

"Driver: Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC3165..."Hosted Network: Not supported"

    "Show interfaces...."State: Disconnected"

    "Number of SSIDs: 1"

"Soft AP: Not Supported Network Monitor Mode: Not supported...
"IBSS: Not Supported, Promicious Mode: Not Supported ASP 2.0 Service Information Discovery: Not supported
    IP Docking Capable: Not Supported"

the last few parts may have not been important, but remember detail matters. This driver was installed into my computer on the 12th of October, I believe a day before the problem starting occurring, so this network adapter might be the source of the problem and it said there was only 1 SSID. I'm not 100% sure but I'll see what you or someone else says about the results

EDIT: All the other drivers I can switch to are all Dual Bands

    UPDATE:

It's a 2.4 Ghz I dont know if this causes the issue.

    Thank you.

  7. The 2.4 Band gets better distance, the 5 gets better speed.

If you got a new driver and the issue started roll back driver.

Then to prevent windows from helping you with new driver.

Windows key + R, type sysdm.cpl, click on Hardware tab, then click on "Device Installation Settings", then "No".

Note the version of your existing driver so you know the roll back worked. Then note roll back driver. If this acts up again check driver version. With each major update this will be an issue. Find a copy of the working driver, preferably from Intel and save it. You are going to need it. I have old 7260 and this is the process I go through.

As much as I hoped it would work, rolling back my drivers didn't change a thing. If it's not the driver, then what is causing it?

I have to use my Phone's hotspot in order to connect, but I want to connect to the internet.

  9. Next time when you are connected in the spot you run your device could you rerun the command and post results.

Maybe the adapter has just failed, not 100% but enough. If you can get access to it, reseat and remove and connect antennas.

Some have reported shutting off IPv6 has helped.

Very likely the easiest way to fix is to get a wireless dongle. They are between $20 -$50. The more expensive are usually smaller. Maybe a friend or someone in house has one you could test.

I'm considering just getting a new computer since the one I'm using is getting a little bit shabby since some of it's housing on it is coming apart, I still can't figure out what the deal is why my computer won't connect to the internet and when I'm able to, it's weak and I have to be next to the modem.

It's not the modem, it's something with the computer.

    Thanks for the help though!

I also can't find the antennas on the box, it's a weird type of modem.

  12. The antennas are attached to your wireless card in your machine. Basically a wire, likely one is black and one is white. Look up how to disassemble your laptop on youtube. You will see where the card is and how difficult it is to get too. The antennas connect with a push connection, no screwing. They pull off and slide on. Reseating card will require removal of a couple of small screws.

In advance power management there is a sub-section labelled wireless. You should ensure for both battery and plugged in it is set to maximum.

Agree it is something with computer (windows interacting with hardware). For my old Dell there is one driver that works. Take a driver issued six months later and its no go. I have a Intel 7260 and it likes 17.0.0.34 from February 2014.

Here is a whole list. If you read release notes are devices take the same drivers. On this page they go all the way back to 17.0.0. Worth a try.

I would use just the driver. No need for the proset software.
