    Dell InsydeH20 BIOS freezes when I try to Save changes and Exit


    Hello,

    I have a Dell Inspiron 7520 (i7 processor) laptop. I recently updated the BIOS to A13 and replaced the DVD drive with a caddy for a second hard drive.

    I can boot into the OS on this drive by tapping F12 on boot up and changing the boot order to the DVD drive.

    However I cannot make that permanent. There is another BIOS menu where you can change the boot order and then Save and Exit so it will always boot from the DVD drive Sata connector. However when I try to do that the BIOS screen freezes and I have to force a reboot by powering off and on again. When it comes back it boots as usual into the Hard Drive Sata connector.

    1. The "HardDrive" is an SSD and the "DVD drive" is a HDD.
    2. I tried resetting the BIOS settings to defaults and when I did that the only boot options were Harddrive, Network and Network so I did not try to save that change.
    3. Both SSD and HDD have Win 10 installed with Legacy BIOS/MBR and not GPT/EFI.
    4. When I look in the BIOS it says the CMOS battery is working normally.
    5. I can boot from the drive in the DVD drive bay but cannot make it default to that drive at every boot.

    Any ideas?

    Screen goes blank after changing BIOS settings/

    I don't know how long this has been happening, a few weeks at least, but whenever I change a setting in my BIOS (and save & exit), my screen goes blank and my monitor goes into standby. Any suggestions to fix this?

    cannot save changes to cmos

    i have a soyo p4865pe dragon 2 motherboard that suddenly out of the blue wouldn't save changes to cmos.

    when you save to exit the "y" is there but if you hit enter nothing happens and the computer is frozen. if you turn off power to reboot, it doesn't reflect any changes you made.

    by accident i discovered if i ctrl+alt+del it will exit and reboot but the changes are saved. this was what i was doing for a while.

    i can switch the n and the y back and forth, i can exit without saving and have no probs.
    only hitting enter with "y" selected to save will freeze the system.

    i have no clue why this started happening but nothing was changed or upgraded on the system and i don't overclock i just run a vanilla p4 3.4ghz 800fsb 2gb ddr400 ram system.

    i thought the board was going bad but after i changed it i started thinking it may not be a bad board but maybe a bad bois chip so i came here to people who know more than i do.

    i replaced the bios battery and reflashed to the latest bios before giving up and swapping out the board so i'm sure it's either a board issue or defective bios chip.

    i just don't know how to check this out and maybe my idea of a bad bios chip may be dumb.

    it was a good board and i really would like to save it if possible.
