Windows 10: Dell laptop doesn't detect jack mic when plugged in. Realtek drivers, MaxxAudio. With solution.

I'm posting this as a new question with answer as all the other similar questions were closed for additional comments & solutions.Go through those first for Windows-related issues such as microphone privacy, app-specific control, etc.I'm on a Precision 7540 laptop, but that's not really relevant here.The fix for mine was related to MaxxAudio. Previously, when I plugged a device into the audio jack, there was a pop-up from MaxxAudio asking what I had just plugged in. This stopped happening at some stage and whilst my headset earphones worked, my mic shown as jack mic in the Sounds control

Rear mic jack and line in jack not working - windows 10 detects when mic is plugged in but no sound recorded. Mic works fine in front jack

Please help! My mic does not work when plugged into the rear mic jack or line in jack. The speakers plugged into the rear jack work fine - on the same group of ports as both the rear mic jack and line in jack.

The same mic works fine when plugged into the front mic jack.

Windows detects when the mic is plugged into either rear mic jack or line-in jack. When it is the only mic is is labelled as the default device.

BUT the mic can't pick up sound. When I test it it reports max detection 0db. The levels are set to 100% and max mic boost.

I have run the troubleshooter and it can't detect any problem.

I've searched through previous questions which are similar but don't seem to give the answers... and many seem to talk about realtek sound devices but these don't seem to be realtek, it says they are microsoft devices.

for all three of these input jacks

I have checked drivers and it says latest drivers are already installed.

the device IS enabled.

I have set the privacy setting ON so apps CAN to use the microphone

all three input jacks are on the controller - 3 - high definition audio device manufacture is microsoft; Location 0 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus)

the properties information says they are working properly - for all 3 jacks.

What I want to be able to do is use both the front mic AND one of the rear mic inputs at the same time

but at the moment, neither of the rear jacks work even when nothing is plugged into the front one.

How do I enable the rear jacks to work and detect sound?

Do I need to do anything to make the rear jacks detect sound independently from the front jack at the same time?

I used a cable to combine mine headphones and mic into a mixed jack.My laptop doesnt detect mic

It is not a listed item.

Plug both of them in, go to realtek audio console or realtek hd audio manager (i.e. or dell audio, waves maxxaudio pro app, hp audio app or b&o audio app) --- set it as headset.

Lightly tap your microphone, the signal meter for any microphone (most likely called microphone array) will jump, confirming that your mic works.

BUT it may not work because your razer kraken x is a trrs jack. The splitter is expecting trs on both jacks.

 

Maxxaudio not detecting headphones - Dell Inspiron

I have been attempting to fix this issue for the past couple days and nothing seems to be working. Maxxaudio on my Dell Inspiron P91G is not detecting my headphones when inserted into the audio jack. This is causing my audio to sound pretty poor when
using my headphones. The pop-up box is not appearing (yes I have selected "Show pop-up dialogue...." and yes it is enabled as start up in task manager), and when in the MaxxAudio Pro app itself, only "Internal Speakers" is an option to choose in the drop down
menu. I have tried updated the Realtek Driver, re-installing the driver, and nothing has seemed to work. This is a frequent problem on my laptop and it usually fixes itself after a while, but now it has been over a week.

Can anyone help?
