Is it necessary to remove recovery partition? If so Why? Kindly explain how recovery partition will hinder upgrade if I have already 32 GB empty space? I want to know before starting to do as per your advice.

Just to confirm that I understand what you suggested I would like to know
1) as Windows 10 needs secure boot why it shoud be disabled?
2) Will fast boot hinder upgrade. In my laptop upgrade went smooth with both secure boot and fast boot enabled.
3) before starting upgrade TPM should be enabled. Am I correct?

 

You don't need to do all that BIOS booting to disable secure/fast boot/TPM, just go to system info, and turn off bitlocker. That is it.

You don't need that recovery partition for the 5830 in win10. But if you do what I suggest (create PC image) you will preserve it.

On the 5830 win10 tablet booting into RE works fine. It functions differently that win8.1 RE. It will create another recovery partition that you can boot into and use to reinstall/recover/advanced WITHOUT Having to create a USB recovery drive. (on the 3845 upgrade you have to keep the recovery partition intact, and even though you can delete it after the win10 upgrade, deleting it breaks the ability to boot into and use RE, forcing the use of a USB recovery drive. Though it is possible that deleting the recovery partition, then reinstalling Win10 may resolve this)

Again I tried with bitlocker turned off and fTPM, as it is shown in security|PTT, enabled.
First I tried with security | secure boot mode as custom as it was. Then I tried with the same as standard. In both cases, I message windows 10 installation has failed. Now I am further perplexed what to do?

Did you delete the recovery partition?

First of all, why do you want to keep it? That 8.1 recovery partition is useless in 10. Soon as you upgrade, 10 will just add its own 450mb recovery to the existing partition anyways.

 

I am still unable to understand relation between recovery partition and windows 10 upgrade as long as I have enough space in my drive. Can You explain it, please?

 

There is something wrong with the DVP8 tablets. Some kind of problem is occurring with the 5830 and the 3845 tabs. Whatever it is, it is preventing the DV8P from being able to upgrade successfully, and forces a roll back, or if it does successfully upgrade the created recovery drive (3845) becomes corrupted/unusable for recovery. Dont hold your breath on Dell/MS fixing it. There are work arounds, that is it.

I suspect it has something to do with the drive volumes, partitioning, or perhaps how Win8 DVP8 hooks into the recovery partition/Images.

Everyone who has successfully upgraded the DVP8 5830 has done so after deleting the win8 recovery partition. if you don't delete it, you will not be upgrading to win10. Simple as that.

in any event, once you delete the win 8 recovery partition, and successfully upgrade, a new recovery partition will be created.

There are two ways to delete it

1. Create the recovery drive, afterwards it gives option to delete partition

2. Boot into RE, select command prompt and do following:

Type "diskpart"

Type "list disk" (disk 0 is usually it)
Type "select disk 0"
Type "list partition" (for example, partition 4 may be "recovery")
Type "select partition 4"
Type "delete partition override"
Type "exit"
Type "exit"

Boot to windows, you can then manage it (disk management), and extend the C: volume. Done.

 

I have tried deleting recovery partition and also making secure boot disabled in my DV8P. Still in windows 10 installation screen, 91% done and then rebooting in a moment. Then I get a dialog box saying windows 10 installation failed. Still no success.

 

Actually I upgraded/activated my DV8Pro to Win10 (10.0.10240) without deleting the win8 recovery partition. The only "unusual" thing done was to select an add-on microSDHC memory stick as the location for the recovery information. I didn't need to delete the win8 recovery partition because I didn't need the space for the Win10 installation. *Smile

 

Curious question: if I've successfully upgraded "without" deleting the win 8 recovery partition (and then I delete it later) will a new recovery partition be created OR will a new/updated (Win10) recovery partition be created some other way?
