Windows 10: Dell XPS 8500 Will NOT upgrade Win7 Ultimate to Win10 - Most Common error: oxc1900101 -...

I have tried over the last 2 days about 8 times to upgrade my computer from Win7 Ultimate to Win10 and fails everytime. The most common code for me is: This installation failed in the second boot phase oxc1900101 - ox40017.....


xps 8500 .......i7 -3.8Ghz, 32Gb ram


I have updated - Bios A14 , I have went thru and updated All drivers dell site.

Ran win updates and updated

I cleared contents of C:\windows\software distribution\download

I have disconnected ALL external devices connected to the computer except the mouse and the keyboard

Uninstalled Win Security Essentials

Disabled Comodo firewall - Have no other third party security program

Disabled wifi and connected straight ethernet cable.


I have read and searched for answers, not really getting a clear answer on what else to do.



One other thing,......I tried this last year and had a failed attempt. This computer has 2 Hard drives.

C: OS hard drive with a few things on it

D: 2nd Hard drive


After the failed attempt to upgrade, The 2nd hard drive was not visable. I had restarted a few times and it showed for a min, then disappeared again.........never to show again. Its in the machine just doesn't show or work.

Dell XPS 8500 upgrade from Win 8.1 Pro to Win 10 Pro

The Dell website lists the computer models that have been tested for Windows 10 compatibility. The XPS 8500 has not been tested. This is surprising since my XPS 8500 is only a few years old. I am running Windows 8.1 Pro with no problems. The offer
of a free upgrade doesn't mean much if critical drivers are incompatible with Windows 10.

Has anyone actually been able to upgrade to windows 10 on a Dell XPS 8500 ?

I've read posts from people saying the BIOS isn't compatible.. is it ?

Does anyone have a list of needed drivers ?

Same here. I have many CHEAP computers that had no issues upgrading to Windows 10.

It appears to be a BIOS issue as it barely gets past it when it restarts.

Step it up DELL and get my XPS 8500 compatible.
