So long story short I messed up as always and ended up opening the Create Desktop Shortcut.DeskLink with Notepad and now it won't appear in the Send To dropdown menu. Anyway to restore the default app it opens with? Or at least what is the default app this file extension opens with?

    Thanks in advance!

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Send to Desktop as Shortcut is missing

    Hello,

    Thank you for your response.

I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

    • Press Windows + R keys and Type "shell:sendto" in
RUN dialog box and press Enter. It'll open "Send To" folder.
    • Now right-click on blank area in the folder and select "New -> Text document". It'll create a text file with the name "New Text Document.txt". Rename this file and set its name to "Desktop (create shortcut).DeskLink".
    • That's it. Now you'll get "Desktop (create shortcut)" option back in "Send To" menu.
NOTE: Make sure "Hide extensions for known file types" option is disabled in "Folder
    Options"

Hope it helps. Keep us posted to help you better.

    Windows 10 Version 1511 'shell:sendto' problems

I just received the update to Windows 10 Ver. 1511 on my desktop (Intel Core I7 CPU K875 @2.93GHz, 8 GB RAM, 64 bit running Windows 10 Pro Version 1511) and 2 laptops. Laptop 1 has an Intel Core I7-4810MQ @ 2.8GHz, 12 GB RAM, 64 bit, running Windows 10 Home,
version 1511. Laptop 2 has an AMD Athlon II P320 DualCore @ 2.1 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 64 bit, running Windows 10 Pro Version 1511. All three computers were updated to Windows 10 Version 1511 at the same time.

My problem involves the Desktop and Laptop 1. The issue has arisen on both of those systems since the Update to Windows 10 Version 1511. I no longer have the 'Desktop (create shortcut) option available in the right-click context menu. Please note that 'Desktop
(create shortcut)' option appears in the 'shell:sendto' folder, just not in the actual right-click context menu. All other context-menu items are present.

I have 'googled' the issue and attempted to apply every suggestion made. I have verified the CLSID in the Registry at
    HKEY_Classes_Root\.desklink and .desklink\PersistentHandler. I have copied the
Sendto\Desktop.desklink from the 'C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo' to the
    'C:\Users\my_user_name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo' folder.

I have created a new text file in the appropriate 'Sendto' folder and renamed it
    'Desktop (create shortcut).DeskLink'.

I have run 'sfc /scannow', and after that completed successfully (corrupted files were found and they were repaired successfully) I ran
'DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth' which also completed without finding any additional problems.

I even attempted to copy the working 'Desktop (create shortcut)' from Laptop 2 (the computer that works) to the appropriate
'SendTo' folder on the Desktop Computer. The option still does not appear in the right-click context menu.

The only thing I notice in all of this is the following: On Laptop 2 (the one that works), the shortcut in the
'Sendto' folder has an ICON that is a small 'desktop' representation. On the 2 computers where the problem exists, the shortcut has an ICON that is the same as the 'Notepad' ICON. When I copied the working
'Desktop (create shortcut)' file, the ICON changed from a 'Desktop ICON' to a 'Notepad ICON'. If I click on the file on any of the 3 computers, Notepad opens and the file contains only the word 'Desktop'. Also, the three files are 1 kilobyte
    in size.

I am not savvy enough to know if this might indicate what the problem is, but I point it out in case it offers a clue.

Any suggestions beyond what I have tried above would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help provided --
