  1. Desktop Agent Tray

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, so @Brink (Shawn), you can move it if its in the wrong place.

But, each time I turn my Toshiba Laptop on, it says something like "Desktop Agent Tray has stopped working or is not responding. Windows is checking for a solution for the problem."

This started happening after the Creators Update after Microsoft released it's security updates and patches.

My Toshiba system is in my Specs listed below.

Help would be appreciated! Thanks! *Smile

    :)

    Hi Ron,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

Sorry to know that you are facing the issues with Windows 10. I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.

We will assist you in resolving the issue.

Desktop Tray Agent is a program used by Qwest to update their installer when setting up DSL (Digital Subscribers Line) based connections to computers.

In order to help you better, please provide the information:

    1. Have you install any third party software on the Computer?

    2. When you exactly are you receiving the error message?

Method 1: I suggest you to boot the Computer in safe mode and check if the issue occurs.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/change-startup-settings-in-windows-10#v1h=tab01

After the performing the steps mentioned in above link and click on Safe mode.

If the issue still persist, refer to the below method.

Method 2: I would suggest you to boot the Computer in clean boot mode and troubleshoot with the issue.

Refer to the below link to enter into clean boot state. The below link can also be applicable to Windows 10.

Clean boot disclaimer: A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or
an update or when you run a program in Windows. You may also troubleshoot or determine what conflict is causing the problem by performing a clean boot. You must log on to the computer as an administrator to be able to perform a clean boot. Your computer may
temporarily lose some functionality when you perform a clean boot. When you start the computer normally, the functionality returns. However, you may receive the original error message, or experience the original behavior if the problem still exists. If the
computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from following these steps.

    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Once you perform clean boot do refer to the section “How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting”
to boot the computer in normal mode.

Reply to us with the information, so that we can assist you better.

    Desktop Agent Tray

Most people with this problem have a Qwest Broadband internet service. If "Qwest TouchPoint Agent" app was not updated you would have this problem. You can right click the Taskbar and start the Task Manager, go to the Startup tab and uncheck the TouchPoint Agent, to keep it from starting with Windows Or you can uninstall the Qwest software or discontinue their Broadband service and it should go away.

  5. We have CenturyLink and it's the best internet service in our area. Our other choice would be USA Communications and it is no good. CenturyLink was formerly Qwest. I may just remove the software.
