Desktop App Converter -- app converted but doesn't run, how to debug?

I have been able to successfully convert a Win32 app to .appx using Desktop App Converter with the -Sign flag. Then I copied the self-signed certificate to Trusted Root. The .appx seems to install correctly to C:\Program files\WindowsApps\<my_app> and a shortcut to the main executable is added to the Start Menu. However, at this point the app doesn't run, unless I change some permissions* in its installation path.

How can I debug this issue? I can't seem to have access to an Event Viewer type of log for this sandboxed app.

Update: Turns out there was a problem with my .exe. I replaced it with the .exe from the Notepad++ package (and added other files required for Notepad++ to run) and all went as expected. I still don't know how to debug a case like this as there is no apparent output when something goes wrong.

    ----
*By default, users cannot open C:\Program files\WindowsApps in Windows Explorer but a user with administrator privileges can take ownership of this folder and its subfolders. I did this and I still couldn't launch the .exe. Then I gave my user full control over the installation folder of my app. Success, now I can launch and run the app by double-clicking the .exe, but not from the app shortcut in the Start Menu.

    :)

How do Podcasts Sort when using iTunes?

That's good to know. So the old method of running a local Podcast server app like ElWPAudioBooks will also work. Sych through Zune to get it converted and then move it over to the phone using the Desktop App.
