  2. In principle I would like to see desktop apps in the store, but it depends on what control MS have on them and what rules/restrictions are imposed on the developers wanting to list their apps

When I was using OS X and the store appeared, there where certain rules on the apps (much like mobile app stores) which meant that ones from the app stores sometime had features missing that where available if downloaded direct from the developers website

so in theory good, but if MS has too much control then I wouldn't want it

    :)

  3. Miracast Not Supported - Nvidia says yes, Windows 10 says no

I don't think you understand the issue.

Here. This link will show you the feature in clear terms that we are discussing.

How control your Windows 10 PC or phone with another computer with the Connect app

I have already Connect app with my Windows Phone to connect to post-Anniversary Windows machines, Surface Book, and another Desktop PC (a Velocity Micro NUC) with no issues whatsoever. Yet this capable machine reports that it cannot. That is what we are
trying to solve. More importantly, a prominent graphics card vendor is saying it is Microsoft's issue.

Win 10 log in screen does say which users are logged in

Exactly. If I walk up to the computer and I want to know whether it is safe to shut down and, if not, who needs to log out first, I can't do it without logging in myself (which takes several minutes for my profile)? Are you KIDDING ME? Why was the ability
to see who is logged in at the welcome screen removed from Windows 10? Please bring it back!

    Hi there

I generally don't like "the Store" idea at all -- especially if it starts working like say Google play -- apps can get updated at any time - and if for example (as usually happens with mobile phone apps) the new version either fails to work or you just don't like it (say new GUI or more bloat / unneeded "features") there's never any way to revert back to the previous version -- on most of these "Stores" there just isn't an archive of "previous" versions -- and if you have to do these horrid "1-click installs" then you can't even save the versions manually.

Nothing too much wrong with the current system for windows installs -- "If it ain't broke -- don't fix it".

    Cheers

Did not happen for APPs what makes me think it will happen for desktop apps.

Nyet nyet soviet.... That was "Da da Canada, nyet nyet Soviet" as far as I remember from that hockey game !!!
Auto updates, of any kind have been banned from my systems like forever. First things I do after installing system or any programs is to turn all of it OFF.
With recent scandals with bogus Apps from Windows store, I don't think I could trust them for long time coming.

Desktop Apps in Windows 10 Store? Users Say Yes

On my laptop / work computers I don't have Chrome or Firefox so not an issue.

On Linux I still use the Konqueror browser (part of KDE desktop - which I still use on CENTOS 7).

For those who like "eye candy" the KDE plasma effects (KDE 5 and parts of KDE 4) look very nice indeed on decent hardware - Windows could easily bring back some of those effects including "Aero Glass" like ones. Make them optionally installable. For things like Photoshop (Windows) I just use a plain light grey workspace -- depends on what I'm doing as to the choice of desktop backgrounds and work space effects - some like them others don't - at least provide a choice.

    Cheers
