    Desktop freezes, blacks out, then comes back in squares...slowly


    Good morning.


    As mentioned in the subject line, does anyone know what is causing the problem and what the solution could be?

    I've attached an image to demonstrate


    I've searched the web, but to no avail.


    This has only started happening the last couple of days.

    Desktop freezes, blacks out, then comes back in squares...slowly

    Gray Square on Desktop - Frozen Cursor

    Ok, I tried a clean boot start up and the issue appeared on the desktop as soon as the desktop was visible. I should be clear that it is a transparent square with a black outline. Holding your fingers on the square and slowly swiping it away turns it into
    a gray circle - which you can swipe away, although sometimes it takes 2 to 5 swipes to make it stay away. Here's a couple of screen prints with the square and the circle showing encased in a rectangle that I created using PowerPoint:
