Windows 10: desktop has suddenly diasappeared from the monitor

Discus and support desktop has suddenly diasappeared from the monitor in Windows 10 Support to solve the problem; My computer had frozen so I had opened taskbar to close the programme that i was working on.     desktop has suddenly diasappeared from the monitor


    My computer had frozen so I had opened taskbar to close the programme that i was working on.
    Somehow the desktop disappeared and has been replaced with windows theme background with apps screen.
    when i go into my computer , the desktop items are still present
    How do I get the desktop with all the ICONS showing again.
    would be grateful for advice

    Display & resolution suddenly changed on 11/24/2017

    Suddenly my display & resolution lowered and now the display doesn't take up the whole monitor (There is black space on both sides of the monitor). The resolution it used to be set at is no longer an option. Restoring to an earlier date only worked for a
    moment, then the screen suddenly changes again and then I'm notified that updates will be installing soon. From what I can figure out, a display driver is not updating properly or something?? I am stumped. I want to use the full size of the monitor! Most frustrating.
    Whatever is updating does not fix the problem. Can anyone help?

    Did you restart the computer?
    Windows had a hard time booting into your User profile, so it logged into the Default Temporary User Profile. Restarting usually gets you back to where you were.

    restart made no difference
    managed to get desktop back,
    had somehow managed to click tablet mode. when the computer had crashed and i had closed an application from task manager
