Windows 10: desktop icon grid spacing and size (how to adjust fit?)

so...on Win 7 I could use my whole screen.
I could have a window open almost full screen, but still see my bottom row of icons.
on Win 10 I have about 60pixels of wasted screen real estate where it won't let me put icons

I'd like to get rid of the stupid gaps between icons, too, if possible.

how do I fix this?





please do not suggest CTRL+scroll, that is not what I'm talking about.

Desktop Sizing

One easy way is to click once anywhere in an empty space on your desktop (so it's the thing that receives input from your mouse and keyboard). Then, hold down the ctrl key while you scroll your mouse wheel to adjust the icon sizes.

Another way (helpful if your mouse doesn't have a scroll wheel) is to right-click anywhere on a empty space on your desktop, choose "View" then pick an icon size in the list. You can also choose if you want your icons to neatly auto-arrange to a grid or
be scattered randomly.

 

My desktop icons move to a grid on the left for no reason

If your icons are aligned to a grid, this means that the settings of your desktop are currently auto arranged and automatically aligned. Since you want to rearrange your desktop icons on however you like them, we suggest that you follow these steps:

• Right-click at a blank area on your desktop.
• Hover on View.
• In the right pane, look for Auto arrange icons. If it's checked, make sure to uncheck it.
• Hover again on View.
• This time, look for Align icons to grid. If it's checked, make sure to uncheck it.

After doing these steps, you'll be able to rearrange all your desktop icons again on how you want it.

change the grid size of the desktop

Although my monitor has a 1366 x 768 resolution, I can only get 5 icons vertically on the desktop in Windows 10.

In Windows 8 I had 8 icons on the same screen.

Making the icons smaller does not change anything, it only makes the icons smaller and the spacing between the icons larger, and I still get ony 5 icons.

I found some answers about changing the grid spacing on Windows 7, but according to that thread, in Windows 8 this possibility was gone. How about Windows 10: is it in anyway possible to change the grid-size or the spacing between the icons, without having
to change to "non-automatically allign"
