Windows 10: Desktop icons display other program icons in place of OneDrive check marks and Shortcut icons

Hi all, I had an issue that seemed to resolve itself, but I still wanted some clarification in case anyone has experienced this before. I'm on Windows 10, version 21H2, on an HP Envy laptop. Just a few minutes ago I noticed that many, if not all, of my desktop icons - specifically, the bottom left hand corner of each - was displaying the logo of other programs. I've attached a screenshot of one part of my desktop below:You'll notice some icons have the Adobe Acrobat with a white document-type icon, while others have the "A" from Autodesk programs. I waited a few seconds, and the icons updated

I know I am quite late but as I was scrolling through I saw this post which happened to one of friend too. This sometimes happens with Windows. Usually a reboot will solve the problem. However if this doesn't, try setting the icon for the shortcut(right-click pinned icon, right-click program, left-click properties, select "change icon...") or refreshing it by switching to a different icon, applying it, and then reverting back to the original icon. Remove the shortcut from the taskbar and replace it with the start menu shortcut or simply drag the .exe file to the taskbar.

I am not sure whether this will work (Ubuntu does not have icons like that on the desktop by default), but I suggest opening the trash bin and sweeping the icons into the window showing the trash bin.

the icons are located in 'all users' folder somewhere (for example, i see a few shared icons in "C:\Users\Public\Desktop" )

The only way to fix those, is to remove the icons from there, and place them on to each users desktops manually. an admin may need to do this.
