Windows 10: Desktop Icons Messed Up in Windows 10

I have an Alienware laptop and I'm running Windows 10, 64 bit, Ver. 1903, Build 18362.476.


Following the November update to Window, my Desktop icons became evenly spaced across the screen with at least double the spacing between icons. If I switched off Auto arrange then the icons would realign themselves with several icons stacked on top of one another.


I thought the issue might be the icon spacing and I went in to the Registry. The Icon Spacing and Icon Vertical Spacing were both set to 2500. I thought that if I adjusted these back to 1125 it might solve the problem. However, when I did this, the icons rearranged themselves into a single column down the center of the screen, with several columns stacked on the top icon. I cannot move the icons from this position. I went back to the Registry and reset the icon spacing to 2500 but the screen did not change. Now I cannot get out of this configuration.


Does anyone have any suggestions about how I can get the Desktop to behave as it did before the update?

Windows 10 desktop icons not in order

In ccleaner, did you uncheck cleaning the icon cache... have not used in a while; however, I think that is what the option is called.

Now, if you are setting the icons and they move after you have set the settings and not changed them... you may have the "Random Windows 10 Icon movement problem".
Some people have this and some don't.

Remove Linux Desktop Icons

I am not sure whether this will work (Ubuntu does not have icons like that on the desktop by default), but I suggest opening the trash bin and sweeping the icons into the window showing the trash bin.
