Desktop icons moved to secondary display

I have a dual monitor setup, and it's been working fine for years... suddenly, about a week ago, it started a peculiar habit of moving all my desktop icons to the secondary display. I can't work out what triggers it - it just seems to happen every now and then for no apparent reason; suddenly I see them all over there. I drag them back they retain their relative positions, and carry on... til it happens again.I tried deleting my desktop.ini file, but that didn't help.I am not aware of any updates prior to this happening. The last Windows update was last month, weeks before this started hap

    :)

  2. Desktop icons scattering after connecting secondary display

    Hello,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

    1. Are you aware of any changes being made to the PC?
    2. Which version of Windows 10 you are using currently?
    3. Are you using a HDMI cable or a VGA cable to connect the display?
    4. How are you re-arranging the icons?
    5. Have you tried connecting the display first and then switching on the PC?

I suggest you to try the steps mentioned below and check if that helps.

    Method 1:

Try aligning the icons to grid.

    1. Right click on the desktop and click on View.
    2. Now click on auto arrange icons and click on
      align icons to grid.

    Method 2:

Try updating the display and monitor drivers. Refer the article

    .

    Hope it helps.

  3. Desktop Icons Moved to Secondary Monitor

After the last update/restart cycle of Win 10, all the desktop icons moved to the secondary monitor. Yes, I can manually move them back but that is not a valid option. So many things do NOT WORK in Win 10. I hate having to debug your software!

    Desktop Icon Keeps On Moving

That's because your resolution is changing each time. To test, try setting to 1024x768, arrange a couple of icons and then restart the PC. As long as the resolution after startup is still 1024x768, then the icons won't move. Trust me. *Wink Desktop icons moved to secondary display ;)
