  1. Desktop icons not functional after logging in

After logging into Windows 11, desktop icon don't work for 10-15 seconds then they start to work. I have tried changing the power settings to keep hard disk active however this made no difference.

  2. Remove Linux Desktop Icons

I am not sure whether this will work (Ubuntu does not have icons like that on the desktop by default), but I suggest opening the trash bin and sweeping the icons into the window showing the trash bin.

    Desktop: no icons, no functions

    Hello!

I have been searching for several hours now, trying to figure this out and I am not sure what my options are. I have an hp all-in-one desktop, about two years old, and it's running Windows 10.

About a week ago, I noticed Windows update waiting to be performed. I think it automatically updated, and when I tried to log into my desktop, I wasn't able to log in. I was able to shut down the computer a couple of times, and finally the log in screen came back.

When I finally was able to get to the desktop, all my icons were gone. I'm unable to right click, use the windows key, or use any command functions to perform any possible suggestions folks out there have for restoring the system. If I right click, I see the blue wheel running, but only when I hover over the bottom bar on the screen. Oddly, a typical McAfee notification came up asking if I wanted to shred documents, and I could click on that, but nothing else.

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best route to take to restore the system and get back desktop functionality?

I saw a post by Greg (can't recall his last name and lost it!) who had a great list of things to try, but there were so many options and I'm not sure which is the best for my situation. I don't want to mess up the system more and then find myself in a bigger predicament.

    Thanks!

    Hi Laurie,

As per the issue description I understand that you are facing issues with desktop icons.

I suggest you try the following step in order to arrange the icons.

    • Right click on the desktop.
    • Click on view
    • Check the option auto arrange icons.
Let us know if this helps.

    Thanks.
