    Hi,I need to disable creation of desktop.ini any way possible. HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ExplorerUseDesktopIniCache 0 doesnt seem to work.No I don't want to hide it. I can see on our fileserver that 99.99% of read writes are to the desktop.ini folders of various users, which is just ridiculous design.Even in folders which are empty and aren't accessed by users, thus I see that explorer.exe on every PC connected to domain is wasting IOps for no reason.Anyone found something that works ? Thanks

    Desktop INI and Autorun

    So... I have multiple external hdds. I have autoruns on them to generate Labels and Icons. That is working properly. I have multiple sub folders on those hdds. I need 2 different types of Desktop INIs that I cannot seem to get working.

    **NOT Working**
    I need the parent on each of these hdds to:
    - show large icon (or just icon) view

    *Working*
    I need subfolders within the parent to:
    - assign icon
    - show icon view

    **NOT Working**
    I need subfolders within the subfolders to:
    - show list view

    Disable creation of desktop.ini in windows 10 (on the Desktop)

    I would like to stop the 'desktop.ini' file being created on the 'Desktop' of my windows 10 machine. I have asked this question sepcifically about Windows 10: There is a question about the same issue on Windows 8 here, the solutions proposed there (and elsewhere) for Windows 7 and 8 don't seem to work.

    Please, no solutions along the lines of 'disable viewing hidden files'. My specific question is how to stop the file being created on the desktop.

    We just want to follow up on your concern. Is the dekstop(1).ini file still being opened whenever you turn on or restart your computer? It's possible that it's been enabled at startup. Which build version of Windows 10 is on your computer?
    To check, click Start, type winver, and press
    Enter    . For example, 14393.1066. This could be crucial information for the resolution since you said this only started after installing an update.

    As an initial recommendation, we suggest that you disable this item in the Task Manager by following these steps:

    • Right-click the taskbar.
    • Click Task Manager.
    • Click More details in the bottom left corner.
    • Click the Startup tab.
    • Right-click the desktop(1).ini file from the list and choose
      Disable.

    Let us know if the desktop(1).ini file stops being opened at startup after following these steps.
