  1. Desktop is overlayed with background from phantom screen

    Hi,

My setup is a Lenovo laptop with the latest drivers. I have specifically and multiple times verified the bios, the display, and monitor drivers. My configuration is has multiple monitors.

Under some set of circumstances that I haven't been able to nail down, when I disconnect the laptop, put it to sleep, use it elsewhere, put it to sleep, and then reconnect it to my 2 external monitors, I get an artifact on one of the screens.

Specifically the artifact is a background that overlays all content on that second monitor. In this particular case, the overlay covers the right 80% of the second monitor. The only solution I've found for this is to reboot my computer (given what I'm running, it never restores correctly).

The second monitor is being rendered, it is just covered up by the overlay. I know this because I can put content onto the second display, and captured it with PrtScrn. The content is clearly present, just covered.

The mouse cursor works over the entire screen, but interactions with the screen happen underneath the overlay. Again verified by capturing the screen.

    I have unsuccessfully tried:

    * Uninstalling and re-installing the graphics driver, forcing software rendering in the process.

    * Changing the resolution of the monitors

    * Deleting the monitors from Device Manager

    * Deleting all inactive monitors from Device Manager

    * Restarting the graphics driver (Ctrl Shift Windows B)

    * Logging off / on

    * Ctrl Alt Del, and selecting cancel

    * Putting the device back to sleep, and waking it back up attached to the external monitors, and unattached from them.

It doesn't get into this condition often, so I won't be able to try presented solutions until it does. Yes, this sucks.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Brian

    :)

    Lost desktop background

I did a Search & Distroy spyware scan the other day, and one of the suggested "fixes" said something about removing Active Desktop. Like the muppet I am I clicked yes and am now without a desktop background picture.

Does anyone have an idea how to reverse this? If I try to select a picture it's simply not added as a background.
