Windows 10: Desktop keeps refreshing and icons gone, can’t click

I have an HP Pavilion x360 laptop that is a couple years old, and Windows 10. I think it updated (it started over automatically and took a long time before i could log in again), and now my desktop is blank and keeps refreshing every 20 seconds or so. The screen goes grey for a second and then flashes back to my desktop background while the clicker does that little blue circle refresh thing.


I can’t right click or type in the start/search area. I tried restarting it but got the same results. Please help! I’m not tech-savvy but I can follow simple directions if this is fixable.

I deleted IconCache but when I went to see if it worked by moving an icon on my desktop and then right clicked to refresh, the icon did not move back. It seems like there is a step missing where I need to save the positions of the icons on my desktop. Any
other suggestions?

Remove Linux Desktop Icons

I am not sure whether this will work (Ubuntu does not have icons like that on the desktop by default), but I suggest opening the trash bin and sweeping the icons into the window showing the trash bin.
