Windows 10: Desktop Missing

Hello , a problem after a Dec 2rd update for Windows 10 ver 2004. The desktop screen is being prevented from being shown by a white screen which did have other types of icons on it before I removed them. It is useless to right click on this screen to show the desktop because this screen is not the desktop. Another example is to try and use the screen capture snip tool. It cannot and wont work because I can only basically have one screen or a full size application screen - nothing can be resized.No amount of meddling with the personalisation settings seems to work. Further I notice that I cannot minimize many of my apps. I have been checking this problem for about an hour with no success. Reluctant to try a reset and also used puran to delete temp files before I realised a windows.old directory with many files was being deleted.

This was obviously a big up date which had apparently failed last week .

• Did you do a clean installation of Windows or upgrade to Windows 10?

I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if you can find your desktop files.

• Open This PC.
• Double click on C: drive.
• Open Users > double click on your user name.
• Open Desktop and check if you can find missing files.

Why did the startup window get cleared?

I didn't missed any step, the list was gone and gone , even after using lot of programs the programs were not listed in that list.
