Windows 10: Desktop OneDrive disappeared along with my files that were mid-sync

Hi!I want to go ahead and lay the ground work.1. My wife had photos on my computer that didn’t automatically sync to OneDrive. She didn’t have the On-Demand switch on.2. I manually moved the mass amount of photos into the Desktop version of OneDrive so it would sync up. 3. I had been waiting for everything to sync for about 2 hours and I was watching it closely.4. Midway through the sync, OneDrive disappeared completely from my Desktop. Mind you, I never touched it and never had a pop-up asking to remove it.5. I checked OneDrive online and sure enough, it didn’t all sync up with the cloud.6. I

Files not syncing to OneDrive

OneDrive Placeholders are coming back, now called On-Demand Sync




"At Ignite 2016, Microsoft has just announced that it is bringing Placeholders back to OneDrive on Windows 10. Now, they are not called Placeholders anymore — Microsoft is renaming the feature to “On-Demand Sync” which makes a lot more sense than “Placeholders”.

The company demoed this feature at Microsoft Ignite today, and it works just like it used to previously. As you can see in the screenshot above, the files stored in OneDrive weighed in around 9GB, but the actual size on disk was only around 3MB which is really neat. Of course, this feature isn’t anything new as it was available back in the Windows 8 days. However, Microsoft removed the feature with Windows 10, and after lots of waiting, they are finally coming back.

In case you are not familiar with OneDrive Placeholders, it’s a pretty neat feature which lets you see all of your OneDrive files on your computer — but they are not actually downloaded on your PC. When you open them, OneDrive will download the files on-demand, saving your local space which is really useful, especially if you have a PC that doesn’t have a lot of storage.

While Microsoft didn’t announce when exactly On-Demand Sync will be available to OneDrive users, we suspect it will be available with Windows 10 Redstone 2 — which is expected to arrive early next year. "

OneDrive keeps crashing in Windows 10

Quick update. This fixed it for me:

I suggest you to try resetting OneDrive and check if it helps you in resolving the issue. To do so refer the steps below:

Be aware that resetting OneDrive re-syncs all your OneDrive files, which could take some time depending on how many files you’re syncing.

• Press the Windows key + R to open the Run
  Window.
• In the Run Window enter the following:
  %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
• Click OK. The OneDrive system tray icon on the desktop should disappear and re-appear after a minute or two.
• If the OneDrive system tray icon does not re-appear after a few minutes, do the following. In the Run Window Enter: %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe
