Windows 10: Desktop saved stuff changing position behavior

It's been a long time since I first noticed this Windows behavior. Most of times, when I save something to the desktop, the system will place the new item as the last one on the right.

Now and then, mostly when installing some apps, it will position the icon right below the first top left item, which in my case is the Recycle Bin.

But for a couple of days now everything I save to the desktop is being placed under the Bin. And I don't like it.

Is there a way to force Windows to always save stuff the other way?

Save Window Position

Hi Shane,

Saving the window size/position when opening a message to a new window is easy. Simply follow the steps below on how to do so:

• Open a message in a new window.
• Press and hold the Ctrl button on your keyboard and click on the
  X button at upper right corner of the window to close it.
• When you open a message in another window, the size/position of the window should be saved.

How to prevent desktop icons from changing positions

There are various reasons why you're experiencing the issue. Let us isolate your concern by enabling the
Auto arrange icons option, and then disabling it to see if the issue will persist. To do this follow these steps:

• Go to the Desktop screen, and then right click anywhere.
• Hover your mouse on View.
• Select Auto arrange icons.
• Restart the computer.
• After restarting the computer, check if your Desktop icons are still in the right position after clicking the
  Auto arrange icons option.
• If your Desktop icons are in the right position, repeat steps 1-3 to disable the
  Auto arrange icons option.
  
• Customize the position of your Desktop icons.
• Restart the computer.
• After restarting the computer, check if the issue will occur.
