Windows 10: Desktop shows almost no files, but desktop folder has 53 items?

Simply put, files that are in my C:\Users\Dude\Desktop folder are not visible on my desktop. See screenshot below.But! If I try to drag and drop a file from the explorer window showing the C:\Users\Dude\Desktop folder to my desktop, windows pops a message that says "The source and destination file names are the same."So..my desktop is mapped to the correct folder, but I can't see the files that are in that folder when looking at the desktop. Any ideas?Thanks!

Windows 10 Desktop items not on Desktop

Start by turning off Show all folders in the Navigation Pane options:





Then, get comfortable and wrap your head around the
Shell Namespace.

The rooted Desktop (the one confusing you) is a virtual folder, items in this folder are either file sytem items from:

• shell:desktop (User Desktop folder)
• shell:common desktop (Public Desktop folder)

or they are inserted into the namespace via the registry:

• HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\desktop\namespace
• HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\desktop\namespace

 

how to show or list all items on Desktop

All items show on regular desktop, but not listed under File Explorer. Question is, how to get all listed under File Explorer.

 

windows 10 deleted my desktop files

Step 1 - I upgraded to Win 10 and lost all my files on Desktop.

Step 2 - Found the files in Network - USers- Desktop

copied all files again to desktop.

Step 3- Restarted my machine again and lost desktop files again.

Step 4 - As suggested did the following as listed below but dont find my files.

• Press “Windows + E”, open This PC/Computer
• Open Local Disc C, open Windows.old
• Click on Users, select your User name
• Go to desktop folder

Cant find my files. Why is Win 10 deleted files again and again from Desktop ?.
