Windows 10: Desktop WiFi not connecting to my Xfinity Gateway XB6

Hi all,


My desktop will not connect to my Xfinity Gateway XB6. I recently moved and in the old place I lived we had the same xfinity gateway and my wifi worked great. Now, since living here, I cannot get my wifi to work properly. I have a IntelR Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168 WiFi adapter in my Desktop.


I can view the networks, but for some reason they are all showing me that they have zero bars. Furthermore, sometimes I can see my WiFi name, and other times I cannot.


I am an IT professional so I have exhausted a lot of options. I have reset all adapter settings, updated drivers, spent awhile on the phone with xfinity trying to figure it out.


The problem I am not understanding, is the wifi worked perfectly at my last place of residence, and now it doesn't work at all...


Note: I am not far away from my Gateway, so the distance between me and my gateway is not the problem.

Xfinity Wifi showing up in my routers available internet connections ?

I recently found that "xfinity wifi" is showing up in my available internet access list as an openly available option.
I have comcast xfinity hi speed internet as my internet provider but have never had it show up on the routers available connections list before. The home network I set up years ago has a different name.

I am puzzled why this free open network has suddenly appeared in the list. As it requires no password I think there is a possibility its use might present a security risk
Is this a new Xfinity feature??

 

Problem Connecting to Home Wifi with Windows 10

We're using an Xfinity Wireless Gateway for our wireless connectivity at home. I've been able to connect an HP laptop and 2 android smart phones to the Gateway with no problem. However, when I attempt to connect to our wireless network using my 3 year old
Lenovo Ideapad running Windows 10 I can't connect.

It sees the network but when I click on it to connect it gives me the message that it's "checking network requirements" and, after a few seconds, reports that it "can't connect to this network". I can connect to my xfinity hotspot with no problems and, when
I attempt to log on to a neighbors network, it gives me the option to "enter the network security key".

I've power cycled the Gateway but to no effect.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Solution Found

First, thanks to Karthicka_R for the reply. The solution was actually much simpler.

We'd been using another router before switching back to the Xfinity Gateway which we'd used originally. Apparently, my system had retained the previous network name so what I did was:

• Go to Settings | Network & Internet
• Turn off Wifi
• Select Manage Wifi Settings
• Click on the Network Name and Select Forget
• Go Back to Network & Internet and Turn Wifi back on
• Select the Network which has repopulated
• Enter the network key (which I now have the option of doing)

And I was connected to my home network.
